Steve Wright and Steve's right

First of all here some gig info... the Waterford gig is actually at the Electric Avenue and NOT the Forum!! Also, a London date has been added, 14th May at Gramophone. It's a different format than I'm used to; with a Q&A after the show, but it promises to be a good night. I think the last person to do this gig with the Kindred Spirit guys was Marva King (Prince's backing vocalist) and she seemed to love it, so I'm looking forward to it...On another note, Steve Wright played the single on Thursday... a bit of an odd sensation! He's been on the radio for as long as I can remember. I'm sure my brother used to listen to him when he was on Radio1... then I remember listening to his Saturday morning show... very bizarre to hear him play one of my songs... bizarre but very enjoyable I must add!! The single's starting to get a lot of plays now, which is very exciting considering Radio wasn't on my radar when I was making the record initially. My main concern was making something of worth, not something that radio would play.
Most of the stuff I like, is stuff you would never hear on radio actually. In fact I'm courting a song at the minute that is re-birthing my love of music. do you ever get a song that you just can't stop listening to? Maybe it's not like this for everyone, but it is for me. I remember when I first heard 'My Brother Jake' by Free, I think I rewound the tape and listened to it over and over for about 10 times.... I had the same thing with 'All I need' from Radiohead's 'In Rainbows'.... Well now, I've got it again with a song by a friend (I'm very happy to say) called Steve Jones. You've mayber heard me talk of him before...? I did a cover of one of his songs for the Toilet Tour films: Angel's in Drag (another wonderful song)... Well just when I thought he'd reached his song writing peak with Angel's in Drag he produced this meek monster of a song. It's a song about his wee boy Luca, called 'Summerlight'.
He and Luca came by the other day and while Luca was busy flinging Lego round the living room, pulling all the pages out of the printer, rolling marbles down he stairs and making a mess in my bath Steve was burning me a copy of his new record (which he plan's to give away, free on his website!!! - links below)... I'd heard Summerlight before, but not this incarnation.... Anyway, he left it with me, and I listened to it over and over and over, until bedtime, at which point I put it on my iPod and fell asleep to it. I'm addicted to it, I need my fixes throughout the day IT'S WONDERFUL!!! What's more, is you can have it too! And not in a Bid TV way either... I'mnot about to say, you can get it for just £5.95 or anything of the sort... when I said how much I was loving it and that he needs to get it out there for people to hear, he gave me a link and said "work away, it's free to whoever wants it"... I think he's got the right approach (hence Steve's right)... Although he does have the advantage of being a world class flash designer to lean on, whereas monkey's like me are limited to one trick and therefore are stuck in the old 'flog it to pay the bills' regime....
Anyway, you may not feel as strongly as I do about it, but here it is; a gift to you from Steve

Baz replied about 5 hours after.I know exactly what you mean about playing a song over and over again. I wasn't actually aware you got ruin a CD by playing it so much as I've done with Hope. Just found "Paradise" on your MySpace this week, another masterpiece that I've been looping over and over, let's see if i can wreck that one too.
mark ede replied 2 days after.i've downloaded it Foy but it's very quiet I can't hear it (maybe I'm so old I'm going deaf!!!).
I have the same 'repeat' obbsession with 'Two Shades of Hope' and I don't even like wot I call 'banjo' music!!! (ha ha).
My brother Jake eh? Guy who sings like Otis Redding in a non-soul genre..now there's an idea (ha ha!). Keep the faith!!

I realised it would be better to at least put the track through a gentle mastering process for the time being just so you didn't have to strain your ears!! So the link is now to a not-so-very-quiet version of the track. Though its not exactly a "banging tune"...
Off topic - most music these days so so over-mastered its terrible, as the general consensus is "the louder the better" to the point where dynamics don't count any more. I was listening to the new Radiohead record and the acoustic guitars were squashed to the point where I could hardly listen to them.
Anyway thanks for listening... and more power to the Vance!!

I look forward to taking a proper listen without my old age hearing aid!!
